Telmissos is an ancient Carian/Leleg settlement situated on a hilltop north of Gürece village, positioned on the Bodrum-Turgutreis road beyond Ortakent and before the Gümüşlük turnoff. On the hilltop, you can see the sturdy remains of a tower built from rectangular stone blocks, along with traces of an outer fortification wall. Herodotus records that a Temple of Apollo stood at Telmissos, famous for its oracular powers; however, no remains of this temple survive to the present day. The settlement reflects the Leleg fabric that stretches back to the 7th century BCE.
