Aspat is a fortress principally from the Byzantine era, first mentioned in written sources in 724 AD. Serving as a naval base for the Kibyrrhaiotai Theme during the 10th and 11th centuries, it endured repeated raids by Arabs and Seljuks, was fortified anew under the Komnenos dynasty, and passed to the Menteşe Beylik in 1269. Traces of Early Iron Age settlement—particularly Leleg occupation—crown the hilltop; scholars suggest this location once served as the harbor of Termera. The climb to the summit beside Aspat Beach follows a footpath; remnants of a 13th-century bathhouse are also visible along the way.
